Higher-Paid Educators

The University of California handed out salary raises averaging 18% for its chancellors last week and the California State University system handed out raises averaging 10% to its campus presidents. The pay hikes, university officials said, were needed because the salaries of UC and Cal State leaders lag behind those offered by comparable institutions elsewhere in the nation.
