16 Chinese Officials Taking Business Course

Sixteen government officials from the Shaanxi province in China will begin a five-month advanced management training program today at Cal State Fullerton.

The Shaanxi officials include mayors of counties and cities and directors of government-owned enterprises.

“To accelerate economic development, China needs to train more government officials,” said management science professor Shu-Jen Chen, who coordinates the program.

The program will teach the officials how to meet the demands of a market economy and how to promote their competitive power in the international market, she said.

Cal State Fullerton business and political science faculty will teach the master-level courses,each 45 hours long.

The program includes as many as 25 field trips to various governmental agencies and businesses.

The program, established with Northwest University in Xian, eventually may involve officials from all of China’s 18 provinces.

The School of Business Administration sponsors the program.
