Imagine if the Redskins Had Drafted Him No. 1?

After the Broncos won the Super Bowl, they were invited to the White House. Quarterback John Elway did not go, saying he required a knee examination. Asked about returning to Washington this week to play the Redskins, he said, “It’s a bad place. Just ask Bill.”

Elway visited the White House in 1989, ate some chipped beef on toast, and then became ill, missing a Monday night game with the Redskins.

Bothered by a sore hamstring, he might not play again in Washington.

Ryan Leaf, who berated a reporter for reporting that Leaf had cursed out a cameraman the day before after going one for 15 against the Chiefs, was pulled away, cursing, by Junior Seau and one of the team’s public relations directors. A TV camera crew, rolling at the time, passed it on to the ESPN. There were no TV cameras at practice shortly before the locker room incident, but according to witnesses, Leaf was playing catch with a team official and missed badly on a throw, the ball landing by the reporter he would later berate. No one thought much of it because Leaf had missed badly on his last 14 throws against the Chiefs.
