BAKERSFIELD--The Kern County Fair is packed with everything from kids’ crafts to crafty critters, commercial exhibits to headline concerts. In the final week of the fair, see monster trucks compete on Friday, Oct. 2, and broncs and buckaroos kick up dust in the Wild West Show and Rodeo, Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 3-4. COLOMA--Pan for gold near Sutter’s Mill, where James Marshall discovered gold 150 years ago. The World Gold Panning Championships get underway at the surrounding site, now known as Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, on Wednesday, Sept. 30. TEMECULA--About 100 tractors will plow through the mud bog for the 21st annual Great Temecula Tractor Race. Kids can mud-surf and play mud volleyball. Temecula Showgrounds, Diaz and Winchester roads. CALISTOGA--About 50 microbreweries, sausage makers and restaurants will pack them in for the 15th annual Calistoga Beer & Sausage Fest. Local bands will play as festival-goers sample spicy recipes from the Calistoga Chili Chaser contest.
