Impeachment

President Clinton has shown amazing strength in his ability to continue to attend to the country’s business. On the other hand, Congress has enacted approximately 276 laws. Since the last 10 congresses averaged 576 laws apiece, the current Congress owes us action on at least 300 laws in the next two weeks! It would also be nice if our repesentatives would refund our $44.4-plus million. Impeach Clinton? No! Get rid of this Congress? Definitely!

Americans are indeed foolish, if they believe finance capital (which is the true governing entity) will allow Clinton to be impeached. The Republicans are fighting a rear-guard battle.

The word “impeachment” is frequently used as if it meant removal from office. That is not necessarily the case. Being impeached by the House and ultimately found not guilty by the Senate would give Clinton back the presidency that he squandered through a series of extremely poor decisions. Being found innocent would return him as the acknowledged leader of this nation through a constitutional process rather than an emotional outpouring of sympathy reflected in the latest overnight poll.

It is often said that “out of something bad comes something good.” Perhaps the good that will come of the Starr fiasco is that the American voters might finally realize how immoral and unethical the conservative Republican agenda really is. Rather than be demoralized by the self- righteous, anti-personal-liberty tactics of the Republican Congress (and its religious right puppeteers), the usually complacent voting-age populace needs to rise up and cast the votes needed to send those bums packing! Proclaim our heritage of democratic liberty before it is too late to reclaim it!

Letter writers A.J. Catoline and Paul Espinoza (Sept. 24) have been listening to the liberal press too much. It won’t be the Republicans who will suffer a November backlash if they continue to look objectively into the crimes of the president; it will be the Democrats if they don’t.

In the midst of all the political trauma of the past few weeks we are now seeing some Democrats with honor removing themselves from the spotlight. They stood by their man as long as they could.

Ken Starr has taken terrible abuse for bringing forth the truth. Clinton defenders are now shocked, not at Clinton but at Starr for having done the country a favor by exposing Clinton’s excesses. They say our children should not be exposed to this shocking stuff and rather than reexamine their mistake, they become enraged at Starr for outing their guy and are now yelping like pious puppies while having their noses rubbed in it.
