A new kind of English class--laptop immersion--offered at Mission Viejo High School offers a unique mix of high-tech and traditional teaching tools that’s used in only two other school districts in California. Students do not need computer experience but are required to purchase a laptop computer with Internet capabilities, which runs about $2,000. During class, students plug their laptops into tables wired with Internet connections and surf the Web for literary criticism, photos and video clips related to material they are studying. The class has helped many get over their computer phobia, officials said.
