Team Meeting Clears the Air

Before the game Sunday, some of the Dodger players, led by Devon White, called a meeting with Manager Davey Johnson to discuss some of Johnson’s rules, which some players feel are too strict.

The meeting lasted for nearly an hour and the end result:

“There will be a minimal amount of facial hair allowed,” Johnson said. “A little more on the mustache.

“But there’s no earrings and no jewelry.”

Also, players hoping to take children on the team plane during road trips will have to get the OK from Johnson.

“It was a good meeting,” Johnson said.

After the game, the Dodgers made their final roster moves, optioning outfielder Trenidad Hubbard to triple-A Albuquerque and designating relief pitcher Greg Cadaret for assignment.

Left-handers Onan Masaoka and Pedro Borbon will remain with the Dodgers.

The moves also mean the Dodgers will go with three catchers--starter Todd Hundley, who has been held back a bit during the spring because of elbow surgery, Rick Wilkins and Paul LoDuca.

“I’d rather have a little assurance in that area,” Johnson said. “I don’t know at this point how much Hundley could give me in a row.”
