Police Puncture Suspect’s Tires to End Chase

Another televised freeway chase ended peacefully Wednesday afternoon after police punctured the tires of a man who led them on a two-hour pursuit.

The chase began just before 3 p.m. when Simi Valley police tried to pull over James Mitchell Robertson, 36. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Robertson refused to stop and drove his red Dodge Acclaim into the San Fernando Valley on California 118. He made a series of freeway changes in the Valley before driving south to L.A.’s Westside, and from there to Pacific Coast Highway.

He headed north on PCH and back into Ventura County. Police were able to lay a spike strip in front of Robertson’s vehicle in Camarillo. The strip deflated at least two of his tires. A short time later he surrendered to police on the Ventura Freeway. He was expected to be booked late Wednesday on suspicion of evading arrest and other possible charges.
