Frank Steiner held off Ron Peterson to win the Speed Truck Challenge main event at Irwindale Speedway Friday night before 1,737.

Steiner, in a Chevrolet, led the entire race.

Peterson made a move with three laps remaining but traffic prevented him from passing Steiner.

Steiner, from Crestline, was the points leader two years ago.

Roger Ketelsleger, who started in the first row, was involved in a crash on the opening lap.

Garrit Cromsigt, driving a Chevrolet, won the NASCAR late model race. He led 35 of the 40 laps to win his second consecutive late model race.

Rod Johnson tapped race leader Rip Michels with four laps to go, enabling Bob Kindnoll to win in the Grand-American Modified division.

Both Michels and Johnson had benefited from a crash involving Travis Thirkettle and David Phipps with nine laps left, who were battling for the lead with Jim Framm. All three drivers crashed heading into Turn 2.
