Share

High school students throughout the county can learn how to improve teamwork and leadership skills at a youth conference from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on May 1 at Ventura College.

Titled “Crossroads,” the free event is presented by the Ventura County Leadership Academy.

Keith Hawkins, who spent his middle school years homeless, will be the keynote speaker. Although he grew up poor, Hawkins graduated from high school as student body president and earned a bachelor’s degree in communications.

Assemblyman Tony Strickland (R-Thousand Oaks) is scheduled to be a guest speaker.

Participants may attend two workshops on topics such as student rights, setting goals and turning dreams into reality.
