Cincinnati third baseman Aaron Boone sat out his third consecutive game Saturday because of an enlarged colon caused by a viral infection. He’s listed as day to day. . . . Former Dodger Hideo Nomo will start today for triple-A Iowa, his first appearance since signing with the Chicago Cubs. He also is scheduled to start Friday and April 21. . . . Pirate Manager Gene Lamont announced that he will no longer use Rich Loiselle to save games. Loiselle, whose velocity is down since he saved 29 games as a rookie in 1997, will be used at least temporarily in middle relief. Pirate right-hander Jose Silva (facial injuries) will make a rehabilitation start Wednesday for triple-A Nashville. . . . The Arizona Diamondbacks purchased the contract of pitcher Bobby Chouinard from their triple-A club at Tucson and designated outfielder Ernie Young for assignment.
