Canale Pitches No-Hitter, 1-0

Baseball no-hitters apparently are a rarity everywhere but at Cal Lutheran, where the Kingsmen have registered two in three weeks.

On Saturday, Tom Canale kept UC San Diego hitless in a 1-0 nonconference victory at Cal Lutheran.

Canale (7-3) struck out 10 and walked three.

The Kingsmen (22-7) scored in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded ground out by Brian Malchow.

Andy Super pitched a seven-inning no-hitter on March 20 in a 13-1 rout of Lawrence (Wis.) University.

Pierce 26, Santa Barbara 11--Covelli Crisp had five hits, including a home run and two doubles, and knocked in six runs for the Brahmas in a Western State Conference interdivision victory at Pierce.

Josh Miranda and Dave Lusk each had two singles and two doubles, and combined to drive in 10 runs for Pierce (17-8, 7-4 in conference play).

Ventura 7, Valley 4--Chris Goodenough (3-1) allowed two earned runs in 7 2/3 innings for the Pirates in a WSC interdivision victory at Valley.

Matt Alonzo hit his third home run for Ventura (16-12, 6-6).

Oxnard 10, Glendale 9--Benny Lemos foiled the Vaqueros’ attempt to intentionally walk him, reaching across the plate to single home the winning run in the 10th inning of a WSC Northern Division game at Oxnard (13-15, 6-7).

SOFTBALL

CS Northridge 2-6, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 0-3--Jamie Moore and Chastity Johnson each had three hits for the Matadors (19-19, 5-6) in a Big West Conference sweep at Northridge.

Canyons 1, Santa Monica 0--Danni Socha hit a run-scoring single in the seventh inning of a WSC Southern Division game at Canyons (21-11-1).

TRACK AND FIELD

UCLA 150 1/2, Northridge 99, Baylor 97 1/2--Eric Neumann of Cal State Northridge leaped 6-8 3/4 to win the high jump at UCLA.
