Having a Really Hot Time in San Francisco
You can see Baghdad by the Bay by trolley, by boat, by bike--so why not by fire engine?
Robert and Marilyn Katzman have chucked their careers as artists to conduct San Francisco tours aboard a restored 1955 Mack fire engine. The couple installed seats for 13 passengers, who are transported in style around the Presidio, across the Golden Gate Bridge, into Sausalito and back through the city on a 75-minute trip.
Since last summer, more than 4,000 people have played firefighter with the Katzmans, they said. Tours ($20 adults, $10 children to age 12) leave three to five times daily from the Cannery shopping complex on Beach Street, at the foot of Columbus Avenue. Reservations are recommended; tel. (415) 333-7077.
