David Hyde Pierce was honored at the Los Angeles Alzheimer’s Assn.’s annual Night at Sardi’s fund-raiser at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel on March 10. Hyde Pierce, whose grandfather and father died of the disease, received the first-ever Elsa Rose Fabares Award from Shelley Fabares, for whose late mother the award was named. Maureen Reagan, whose father, former President Reagan, suffers from Alzheimer’s, presented the Caregiver Award to former Pasadena Mayor Katie Nack for her advocacy on behalf of those who suffer from Alzheimer’s. More than $600,000 was raised, and about 600 people attended the event, which showcased Cole Porter’s show “Anything Goes.”

* Gov. Gray Davis presented Carol and Frank Biondi with Brass Ring Awards, and Mayor Richard J. Riordan honored Ted Forstmann, at United Friends of the Children’s fund-raiser on March 11. UFC is dedicated to meeting the needs of Los Angeles County’s foster children. Paula Poundstone hosted the event at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, and Jay Leno entertained, as did the L.A.-based Children of the World Choir. About 500 people attended the event, and $1 million was raised. Carol Biondi is a director on the board of UFC’s Bridges to Independence program, and Frank Biondi has been involved in children’s organizations for more than 25 years. Forstmann helped found the Children’s Scholarship Fund.
