O’Donnell Gets Match Penalty

King defenseman Sean O’Donnell expects a call soon from NHL senior vice president and director of hockey operations Colin Campbell after getting a match penalty for slashing and cross-checking Nashville’s Cliff Ronning.

O’Donnell said the hit was in retaliation for Ronning’s slashing him behind the net and for taunting him.

The incident came at 15:51 of the third period, and the Predators were already on a power play because the Kings’ Craig Johnson was in the penalty box for an obstruction/hooking violation.

“I was upset,” said O’Donnell. “I let my emotions get the best of me.”

It gave Nashville 1:03 of five-on-three-advantage time, which the Kings killed off without giving up a shot. Ronning continued to play.
