A Fullerton man who wants to “wheelie” across America on a modified bicycle started his quest at the museum that he hopes will one day feature his feat.

Kurt Osburn, 29, began the 3,500-mile trip Tuesday at the Guinness World Record Museum in Los Angeles. He plans to travel through eight states on his BMX bicycle and finish his journey in Orlando, Fla. The bike has an enlarged seat.

In this latest attempt, Osburn will try to break his own 11-hour record set about eight months ago for the longest continuous wheelie and raise funds to promote awareness of hepatitis C.

Osburn says he decided to champion hepatitis C awareness because of his relationship with motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel.

Knievel received a life-saving liver transplant in Tampa, Fla., two months ago. He said he had been waiting for a new liver to replace one infected by hepatitis C that he says was caused by years of blood transfusions.
