Reiterating its opposition to an international airport at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, the City Council on Tuesday endorsed two Assembly bills aimed at blocking the controversial plan.

The bills were introduced by Assemblywoman Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel). One would delete a special exemption given the county in 1986 to issue revenue bonds for an airport without voter approval. The other would expand the executive board preparing the airport proposal to include members from communities that surround the base.
