Cold War Service

* I fully agree with James Bown (letter, April 11) that the certificates of appreciation to the many millions of Cold War era veterans would be a huge and unnecessary waste of resources. As a cold warrior (Army, 1945-48, Air Force 1950-53) I already have the highest form of recognition that one should expect, in the form of two honorable discharges and two rows of service ribbons.

But the greatest of all recognitions were the GI Bill educational benefits for World War II and Korean service that paid most of my way to three degrees in physics from UCLA and allowed me to spend 30 more years continuing to serve my country in the aerospace industry to help defeat our Cold War adversary. My country and I are more than even, and no further certificates are wanted, thank you!
