COSTA MESA
The city has come up with a neighborhood improvement plan for a group of triplexes near Mesa North at Coolidge Avenue and Fillmore Way. The area--which suffers from deteriorated alleys, trash problems and substandard landscaping and lighting--is in dire need of revitalization, officials say. Neighborhood organizations, specifically the Mesa North Crime Prevention Committee, have worked to improve the area, including holding a major cleanup day just six months ago.
City support will help residents accomplish things they could not do alone, said Councilwoman Linda Dixon. Among the city’s proposals are reconstructing alleys in concrete, closing three alleys at Baker Street to cars and pedestrians, installing a traffic signal at Baker Street and Coolidge Avenue, and replacing private walls with masonry walls covered with stucco.
No funding sources have been identified, but the plan will be part of the council’s budget discussion in June and July.
