Computer Sciences Gets Enron Contract
Computer Sciences Corp. said it has agreed to manage the back-office functions of Enron Corp.’s energy services unit in an 11-year pact worth up to $1.1 billion. The deal calls for CSC to acquire the employees and assets of the administrative arm of Enron Energy and take charge of functions such as meter-reading, billing, collections and inquiries for Enron’s retail gas and electricity customers. El Segundo-based CSC, the world’s third-largest supplier of consulting and technical services, said the “business process outsourcing” contract marked the company’s entry into the utility-industry customer service market. CSC’s shares closed down 25 cents at $57.38, while Enron rose 50 cents to close at $69.50, both on the NYSE.
