Committee OKs Bill to Save Open Space
A bill aimed at conserving land passed the state Senate’s Natural Resources Committee last week. The bill would offer incentives for people to donate their lands for public use, said state Sen. Jack O’Connell (D-San Luis Obispo), who sponsored Senate Bill 680.
“This is a significant step in our efforts to save valuable farmland and open space in California for future generations to enjoy,” said O’Connell in a news release.
The bill would grant a state income tax credit of up to 55% of the estimated value for donating land to a public agency.
With a similar federal credit added on, taxpayers can receive a credit equaling the cost of the property.
The bill’s next stop is the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee.
