Golf Tourney Raises $1,000 for Make-A-Wish

Local judges, lawyers and law enforcement officers recently hit the links for a charity golf tournament that raised $1,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Tri-Counties, officials said Monday.

In a ceremony planned Wednesday at the Hall of Justice, officials from Ventura County Superior Court will present a check to 12-year-old Melissa McCullan, who is representing Make-A-Wish, according to Alice L. Lopez, a court program manager.

Melissa, who has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, is one of three representatives for the regional office. She lived out her wish recently during a trip to Disneyland, Lopez said.

The money raised by the 75 people who played in the first Ventura Superior Court Employee Golf Tournament will go into the foundation’s general fund, said Shanna Wasson Taylor, executive director of the tri-county office.

All donations to the office are spent on children with life-threatening illnesses who live in Ventura, Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo counties.
