HUNTINGTON BEACH
Sowers Middle School was named a 1999 California Distinguished School last week. The school is one of six to receive the honor in the Huntington Beach City School District in the last several years. More than 90 middle schools and 64 high schools turned in applications this year. School administrators are required by the state to fill out an extensive application and, if the school meets specific standards in education, it earns the award.
