Los Angeles-based 101communications is expected to name Jeffrey S. Klein its president and chief operating officer today. The privately held company, founded late last year, produces magazines, Internet sites and other services for information technology professionals. Klein, a 15-year veteran of the Los Angeles Times, will bring publishing industry expertise to 101communications, said Curt Hessler, the start-up company’s chairman and chief executive. Klein rose to the position of senior vice president and general manager for news before leaving The Times at the end of 1998.(Karen Kaplan)

Stockpiles of bellies, hams, loins and other pork products surged to their highest March level in 47 years as huge numbers of hogs still await slaughter. “We’ve got quite a pile of pork,” Dale Durchholz, farm marketing advisor at Agrivisor Services Inc. in Bloomington, Ill., said after the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued its monthly report on food in cold storage.
