Grand Jury Indicts Couple in Online Case

Share

An Aliso Viejo couple was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday on 28 counts of mail and wire fraud for allegedly bilking about 500 investors of approximately $5 million.

Robert Syrax and his wife, Sandra Coronado, ran Gecko Holdings in Irvine and RLS Consulting in Costa Mesa, which authorities said conned people into investing in a nonexistent online gambling venture that they promised would go public.

The couple eluded investigators for several weeks, hiding out in hotel rooms around the country, before being arrested in Florida last month.

About $2 million in cash and assets have been recovered, said Ellyn Lindsay, assistant U.S. attorney prosecuting the case. Syrax and Coronado are scheduled to be arraigned May 3 in federal court in Santa Ana.
