City officials say they are satisfied that they are getting excellent firefighting service from the Orange County Fire Authority for the amount of taxes residents pay. Residents pay about 10% of their property taxes to the Fire Authority and are receiving an equivalent amount in services, Mayor Bob Bell said. In a response to a study by the authority, the city stated last month that it was satisfied with the current arrangement. The authority has been under pressure to develop a system that would be more equitable to member cities.
Currently, some pay much more than they receive in services, while others aren’t able to pay for the full amount of protection they get.
