Damon Katz, a starting infielder for the Pepperdine baseball team, faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon after being arrested Wednesday night in connection with an incident at a Malibu restaurant.

Katz, 21, of Danville, Calif., was being held on $5,000 bail Thursday night at the Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff’s station in Calabasas, said Sgt. Rick Smith of the Los Angeles County Sherrif’s Dept. Smith said he did not know when Katz would be arraigned.

Katz was arrested after an altercation at the Malibu Inn & Restaurant, which sources said was crowded with Pepperdine students Wednesday, the last day of finals at the university.
