Fugitive Sentenced in Faked Death Case
From Times Wire Reports
A fugitive who tried to fake his death in the stormy Atlantic surf to avoid prosecution was sentenced in Toms River, N.J., to 18 months in prison. Anthony Mandarino Jr., 24, a heroin addict and petty criminal already serving a five-year sentence for eluding police, was ordered to serve his term at the end of his current sentence. He must also pay at least $10,000 in restitution to would-be rescuers during a two-day search stemming from the Aug. 24 hoax.
