Johnson Paces CS Fullerton to Win Over Santa Barbara

Adam Johnson struck out nine in eight innings to help Cal State Fullerton defeat UC Santa Barbara, 5-2, in a Big West Conference baseball game Friday in Santa Barbara.
Johnson (7-2) gave up seven hits, two walks and one earned run. Kirk Saarloos pitched the ninth for Fullerton, ranked third in the nation by Collegiate Baseball.
Fullerton (36-8, 17-2 in conference) maintained its 4 1/2-game lead over second-place Nevada (26-14, 12-6), which defeated Sacramento State, 5-2, Friday.
Spencer Oborn hit a two-run home run to highlight a three-run fourth for Fullerton. Oborn, who had a 37-game hitting streak ended April 16, has hit a home run in each of the following four games.
David Bacani had two hits and a run batted in and Robert Guzman had two hits and a run scored for Fullerton, which leads the overall series with the Gauchos, 64-23.
Gene Lenzi had two hits, including a home run, for UC Santa Barbara (22-19, 9-10).
The teams continue the three-game series in Santa Barbara today and it concludes Sunday.
