Riding Therapy Facility to Appeal Permit Revocation
A facility that uses horses to help rehabilitate disabled people said this week that it will appeal a recent city decision revoking its permit to operate.
A city zoning administrator determined that Special Equestrian Riding Therapy Inc. must leave the site it leases at 9633 Baden Ave. by May 8 because the owner failed to meet several conditions of its land-use permit.
Nora Fischbach, the group’s program director, said she intends to go to court if necessary to continue operating her nonprofit group at its spacious location.
“If I would’ve sat down to design a center, this is what I would have designed,” she said. “If we would have to move, it would be horrible.”
In her written decision, Associate Zoning Administrator Emily J. Gabel-Luddy said that despite the group’s effort to properly maintain the facility, its owner allowed it to become a public nuisance. Neighbors complained of lack of proper control of dust and flies.
“You would think we have a terrible situation out here,” Fischbach said. “In fact, the place is spotless.”
The program moved to the Baden property last June. Soon after, neighbors complained to the city that the permit’s conditions were not being met.
