Intertrack Betting Problem at Santa Anita

A telecommunications snafu was costly to Hollywood Park on Thursday.

Santa Anita and the intertrack facility in San Bernardino were unable to take bets on nearly all of the the Hollywood Park card, as well as simulcast races from Aqueduct, Churchill Downs and Golden Gate Fields.

Estimates were that Hollywood Park lost about $2.3 million in mutuel handle. Santa Anita, which was able to take bets on Hollywood Park’s first race, gave rain checks to those in attendance.

Spokespeople from Pacific Bell and AT&T; told Southern California Offtrack Wagering Inc. the problem was being addressed and it was hoped everything would be back to normal this morning. Hollywood Park will be open early today as the first simulcast from Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks day is at 8:30 a.m.
