Boating Laws Strictly Enforced at Harbor

Share

The Ventura Harbor Patrol has been enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against private boat owners who do not follow state and federal laws.

One rule vital to water safety is a speed limit, officials said. The speed limit in Ventura Harbor is 5 mph and extends to an imaginary inverted “V” that connects the south jetty with the breakwater and the breakwater with the north jetty.

Also, boats are limited to a speed of 5 mph when they are within 200 feet of any populated beach.

A person age 12-15 can operate a vessel with an engine only if someone 18 or older is supervising, officials said.

Though private boats have been banned in some harbors, Harbor Patrol Officer Merv Larson said, they are welcome in Ventura Harbor.
