Frank Camp; WW II Veteran, Postal Worker

Frank Camp, a World War II veteran and retired mail carrier, died at his home Friday after a long illness. He was 85.

Camp was born March 10, 1914, in Boston and moved to Ventura County 44 years ago.

Camp was a World War II Navy Seabee veteran who served in Guam and Okinawa for three years. Afterward he became a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Boston.

Camp worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1969. Friends said that in his leisure time, Camp enjoyed playing bingo with his wife of 50 years, Bertha, and he was an avid golfer.

In addition to his wife, Camp is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jean and John Hobbs of Ventura; daughter and son-in-law Connie and Bob Locey of Ventura; grandchildren Tim Locey, Lisa Hobbs and Johnny Hobbs, all of Ventura; and Tammy May of Fillmore; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura, with rosary recited at 7 p.m. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
