* Toys R Us Inc. named John Barbour, who has overseen the development of Koosh balls and singing lollipops at Hasbro Inc., as the first chief executive of its online store, Toysrus.com.

* Fortune Brands Inc., maker of Titleist golf balls, said it has fired 150 people, or 20% of its employees, in equipment manufacturing as it combines its Titleist and Cobra Golf lines to cut costs. Three of six California locations will close; one will be changed from manufacturing to assembly and storage.

* Young & Rubicam Inc. named the successors to current Chairman and Chief Executive Peter Georgescu, who it said will become chairman emeritus of the advertising company on Jan. 1. Tom Bell, 49, will become president and chief operating officer effective immediately, adding the title of CEO Jan. 1. Ed Vick, 54, will become chief creative officer immediately and add the title of chairman Jan. 1.

* General Housewares Corp., a maker of kitchen tools under such brand names as Chicago Cutlery, agreed to be bought by Corning Consumer Products Co., a unit of buyout firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., for $145 million in cash and assumed debt.
