Myrtle Angelina Antonsen, a retired cook and a homemaker, died at her home in Ojai on Sunday. She was 83.

She was born Myrtle Angelina Troseth on Jan. 21, 1916, in Minnesota. She married Harley Antonsen when she was 20, and the couple moved to California in the 1940s to raise their family.

After moving around the state, they relocated to Indian, Alaska, where she became a cook at Indian House. When their children were grown, she and her husband enjoyed rock collecting throughout Alaska.

When her husband died in 1990, Antonsen returned to California to be nearer to her daughters. She made Ojai her home.

“People knew her by her sense of humor,” said one of her daughters, Iva Arant of Ventura.

Besides Arant, Antonsen is survived by daughters Yvonne Young of Ojai and Sharon Antonsen of Ventura, 10 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

At her request, there will be no service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Guardian Memorial Funeral Directors and Crematory in Oxnard.
