The City Council this week decided not to charge political groups that want to use the community center for meetings, ending a two-week debate between the city and various local organizations about the proposed policy.
Instead, the Parks and Recreation Department will require groups applying for free usage of the community center to prove their nonprofit status.
Nonprofit organizations that have a majority of its members living in Yorba Linda can use a meeting room 12 times a year and the large conference room twice a year. Other groups must pay $20 to $100 an hour, depending on the room size.
The council decided to keep the existing policy because the proposed changes restricting political activity were too ambiguous and would be difficult to enforce.
