An Oxnard couple were arrested after police officers found 38 marijuana plants and growing equipment inside their apartment, authorities said Saturday.

John David Landis, 19, and Antonia Marie Caro, 18, were booked Friday night after officers searched their home in the 1700 block of Fisher Drive, Oxnard Police Det. Neail Holland said.

The couple were released from jail Saturday after posting bail, authorities said. They had been held on suspicion of cultivating marijuana and for possessing it for sale, Holland said.

Officers from Oxnard police narcotics division went to the apartment with a search warrant about 4:30 p.m. Friday. Inside, they found plants valued by police at $50,000 and high-powered growing lights, fans and an irrigation system, Holland said.

Smoking paraphernalia and equipment used to package marijuana for sale were also seized.

Landis and Caro were taken into custody when they came home while officers were conducting the search, Holland said.

The case is the second growing operation to be uncovered by county authorities in eight days. On July 29, a 51-year-old Ventura man was arrested after sheriff’s deputies found him tending to a small plantation of 140 marijuana plants in La Conchita.
