* Re “Get the 411 on 818,” Aug.1.
I make hundreds--some years thousands--of volunteer calls for the YMCA, schools and other public organizations, a chore I’ve performed in the San Fernando Valley for over 40 years.
Consumers should “educate themselves” seems an inane instruction to a volunteer obviously facing a 50% increase in required dialing labor. Profit-making providers need to be “educated,” but adding a long competitive community meeting to the volunteer’s schedule seems a high price merely to convey blatant grossness.
