DuBose Shooting
* Re “Probe of Police Urged in Ex-Football Player’s Death,” Aug. 3:
Once again, the NAACP and black community leaders want to make the shooting of ex-professional football player Demetrius DuBose a racial issue. Never mind that DuBose had two prior incidents with the law relating to disturbing the peace and drug use. Never mind that police officers questioning burglary suspects routinely handcuff their suspects as a precaution. This practice is exercised regardless of the color of the individual’s skin. It is not to embarrass the detainee but rather to protect our police officers.
I encourage black community leaders to stop looking at the color of the skin of those involved and begin looking at the situational evidence before rendering an opinion. Unless, of course, these leaders want these incidents to be racially motivated for personal gain.
