Ray Durham drove in three runs in the second game of a doubleheader Friday night to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 7-4 victory and a sweep of the Texas Rangers.

In the opener, Kip Wells (2-0) won his second major league start to give the White Sox a 4-2 victory and then was optioned back to the minors.

Durham hit a two-run homer and a run-scoring single off Ryan Glenn (2-4) in the second game for the White Sox, who had lost a season-high seven in a row before the sweep.

James Baldwin (6-11) gave up two runs for his second win in his last eight starts.

Durham hit his 13th homer in the fourth inning for the White Sox, who handed the Rangers their sixth loss in nine games.

Wells, Chicago’s No. 1 pick in the 1998 draft, gave up one run, three hits and three walks in five innings in the opener. He struck out six and overcame a 56-minute rain delay in the top of the third.

“I know it’s part of the game,” Wells said of his demotion. “I didn’t expect to walk in here and take over. They’ve got five guys in the rotation. Six won’t do it.”

Wells, who started the year at Class A Winston-Salem, was 6-1 with a 2.18 earned-run average in seven starts at Birmingham this year. Infielder Liu Rodriguez was optioned to Birmingham to make room on the roster for Wells. Darrin Jackson was activated from the disabled list to take Wells’ spot in the second game.
