A lawyer for the Beach Access surf shop in South Coast Plaza said Monday that radio talk show host Laura Schlessinger has been served with a demand for a retraction, a prelude to a lawsuit in an ongoing dispute.

The now-bitter dispute began last month when the talk show host, known as “Dr. Laura,” walked into the store and noticed a copy of the skateboarding magazine Big Brother on a shelf. Schlessinger walked out of the store after exchanging words with the manager and then discouraged her listening audience, estimated at 18 million, from shopping at the store again because it had a “porn” magazine where children could easily access it.

After nearly a month of posturing, each side standing firm, attorney Andrew Guilford said it’s time now to end the feud.

Schlessinger could not be reached Monday for comment.
