2 Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide
An 18-year-old woman was shot to death Tuesday when she tried to stop an argument between her brother and a man living in the converted garage of her family’s home, police said.
The gunman, believed to be in his late 20s, also wounded the woman’s brother before killing himself.
The bodies of the man and Erika Garcia Prieto were found after an hourlong standoff in the 900 block of North Maple Street. Inside the house during the shootings was Prieto’s 3-year-old half sister, who was left behind when other family members fled.
Police responding to reports of gunfire found Ernesto Garcia Prieto, 16, running from the garage with a gunshot wound to his hip.
Police used a tank-like vehicle to drive up to the garage and pull Erika Garcia Prieto from the crime scene. She had been shot in the head.
