A 34-year-old Moorpark man was arrested on suspicion of selling cocaine and possessing an illegal firearm, police said Wednesday.

Jose Enrique Leyva, also known as Ismail Sanchez and Jose Garcia, was being held in lieu of $65,000 bail in Ventura County Jail, Det. Allen Devers said.

Moorpark Police Department investigators and detectives from the Sheriff’s East County Major Crimes Unit and Canine Unit executed a search warrant Tuesday morning at Leyva’s residence in the 150 block of Everett Street, Devers said.

During the search, officers found an illegal sawed-off rifle, about $3,500 and numerous items of stolen property, including power tools, jewelry and stereo equipment, Devers said. Two ounces of cocaine were found earlier in the investigation.

Investigators identified stolen property from two residential burglaries in Moorpark and are still investigating the remaining seized property, police said.

Leyva is on probation for prior drug and theft-related charges, authorities said.
