The City Council is expected to approve a request by the Community Services Department to change the name of the George Washington park site to Anaheim Colony Park at Tuesday’s meeting. “This really gives Colony Park a permanent home,” Director of Community Services Christopher K. Jarvi said, referring to the fact that the name “Colony Park” has been used for two distinct sites at different times in Anaheim’s history. The park is in the Anaheim Colony Historical District, on Lincoln Avenue between Anaheim Boulevard and East Street. A plaque describing the park’s previous uses--as the site of an elementary school, then a community center--will be posted on the land.
