Wijnbergen, Philharmonic Resolve Resignation Terms

Share

The Los Angeles Philharmonic announced Friday that all issues surrounding the surprise departure in June of its managing director, Willem Wijnbergen, have been “amicably resolved.”

After just 15 months in the prestigious post, Wijnbergen, 40, sent the Philharmonic board a letter citing “serious issues” and informing them of his intention to terminate his contract effective in September if those issues were not addressed.

In response, the Philharmonic board accepted Wijnbergen’s letter as a resignation and relieved him of his duties within days of its receipt. Wijnbergen was only the second person in 30 years to manage the Philharmonic, as well as the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Bowl’s programming.

Both parties have refused to comment on the substance of the issues surrounding Wijnbegen’s departure, and in a statement Friday, the Philharmonic continued that policy, saying that terms of the departure resolution will remain confidential. Wijnbergen could not be reached for comment.
