12-Year-Old Boy Dies in Fall From Ride at Santa Clara Theme Park
A 12-year-old boy died Sunday after falling from a ride at Paramount’s Great America Theme Park.
The boy, whose name was not released, fell from his seat on the Drop Zone Stunt Tower about 3:20 p.m., park spokesman Timothy Chanaud said.
The ride, which opened in 1996, free-falls 129 feet at 62 mph. No one had been killed or seriously hurt on the ride before Sunday, he said.
Part of the park was immediately shut down and will remain closed through today.
A 24-year-old man died at the park last year when he climbed a 6-foot security fence to retrieve his wife’s hat.
