Clippers Set Date for Talks With Taylor
Contract-extension talks between the Clippers and David Falk, agent for third-year forward Maurice Taylor, will not begin until after Labor Day, according to Elgin Baylor, vice president of basketball operations.
Negotiations were planned this week but Falk requested the delay.
Getting Taylor signed to an extension before the Oct. 31 deadline to sign players from the 1997 draft is viewed as crucial for the Clippers. He led the team in scoring at 16.8 points a game last season. Taylor is in the final season of his original three-year contract, which is paying him $1,367,400.
Falk is expected to seek the maximum allowed under league rules for Taylor, a six-year extension for roughly $72 million.
