Share

VS. TORONTO

* Schedule: 7 p.m. tonight, 1 p.m. Wednesday.

* Television: Fox Sports West Tuesday.

* Radio: KLAC (570) and XPRS (1090).

* Pitching matchups: Ramon Ortiz (1-0. 1.13) vs. Pat Hentgen (7-10, 5.42) tonight, Chuck Finley (8-10, 4.92) vs. Joey Hamilton (6-7, 6.47) Wednesday.

* Last series: The Angels lost the opener, 13-2, the last time the teams met in June in Toronto, and Manager Terry Collins held a 45-minute meeting after the game. It apparently didn’t help. The Angels lost the next day, 3-2, then were beaten, 3-0, in the final game.

FRIDAY-SUNDAY

AT BOSTON

* Schedule: 4 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. Sunday.

* Television: KCAL Friday and Sunday

* Radio: KLAC (570), XPRS (1090).

* Last series: The Angels showed some signs of life on offense in the opener of the last series between the teams earlier this month. The Angels had 14 hits to go with Chuck Finley’s seven innings of four-hit shutout pitching for an 8-0 victory. But the success lasted only one game. The Red Sox came back to win the next three games. Boston had 19 hits, including seven doubles, in a 14-3 victory in the third game, and Troy O’Leary, a Cypress High graduate, had three hits, including a homer, in a 9-3 Red Sox victory in the finale.

* About the Red Sox: Boston is still well behind New York in the AL East despite the strong pitching of Pedro Martinez and the hitting of shortstop Nomar Garciaparra. Martinez (17-4, 2.52) leads the league in victories and earned-run average. The Red Sox were outscored, 19-5, last weekend in losing all three games against Texas.
