Ventura County Roundup : VENTURA : Conference to Focus on Protecting Coast

A conference exploring ways to control beach erosion and protect the California coastline for surfers, swimmers and wildlife is scheduled for Sept. 23-26 in Ventura.
Elected officials, scientists, authors, environmentalists and community leaders will convene at the Holiday Inn. Among the topics to be explored are the removal of Matilija Dam, steelhead recovery, keeping sand on beaches, coastal development and storm damage.
The event is sponsored by the California Coastal Commission, Surfrider Foundation, California Sea Grant program, city of Ventura and assorted beach-preservation groups and government agencies. For details, call 644-7188.
