COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT / USC : Hackett: No Pot of Gold at End of Rainbows
- Share via
Entering this season, Hawaii holds the nation’s longest losing streak at 18 games. Aside from that and the Rainbows’ team colors, there isn’t much that Coach Paul Hackett knows about the Trojans’ opening opponent.
But with former Atlanta Falcon and San Diego Charger coach June Jones taking over at Hawaii this season, Hackett does have an idea of what to expect.
“Based on [Jones’] history, we anticipate the run and shoot, so we’ll use five, six, seven defensive backs,” Hackett said.
That means that although junior Antuan Simmons and sophomore Kris Richard are at the top of the depth charts at cornerback, freshman Darrell Rideaux and sophomore Eric Reese can expect plenty of playing time Saturday.
Defensively, Hackett knows even less about the Rainbows, and that could be his biggest problem.
“The only thing we know for sure is they have a four-man line,” Hackett said. “That’s why it’s such a dangerous game. There’s just no way we can prepare for this properly.”
